Roy's Birthday

Yesterday was Roy's 29th birthday!  What a big year this will be!  We went out for dinner, he enjoyed a steak, and then we came home and opened his gift and watched a movie.

His gift from me included a few of his favorite things...ISU, Jelly Belly's, and black licorice.

We celebrated with our families last weekend, amidst the snowstorm.
We all went out for dinner and then came to our house, "the birthday house," for cake and ice cream.

He got lots of "man gifts."

We thank God for another year of blessings and goodness in our family and our marriage!

Baby Shower #2

The "baby bump" at 31 weeks!

Yesterday my 2 sister-in-laws, Lynn & Jenna, hosted a family shower.
Thanks ladies for coordinating the celebration!

We enjoyed breakfast together, games, and gifts.

We were given these sashes to wear during the shower.  We felt like the honored guests!
The "future grandmas" may even wear their sashes to work a day or two in February.  :)

Baby Shower #1

On Sunday afternoon, Nov. 21st, we had our first baby shower.
Friends from many different seasons of my life were there, making it a super special event!

There were sweet little touches all over the room and the "travel treats" were delicious.

Friends blessed us with many gifts that we will put to good use.

Lil' Swinger got several monkey outfits and sleepers.
They will be perfect for him to "monkey around" in.  :)

My dear friends Emily, Nikki, Kris, and Andrea all played a meaningful part in hosting/coordinating the shower and came from out of town for the event.  Thanks ladies!

Happy Birthday Dad!

Last weekend the Bomgaars Clan got together in Ames to celebrate Dad's 60th Birthday!
We had a great time together, making memories and celebrating Dad's milestone year!

Having Angela home for the weekend was super special!

The weather was perfect for a football game!  Go Cyclones!

We all enjoyed the ISU vs. Nebraska game, even though they lost in overtime.

After the extremely disappointing loss of the Cyclones we headed to The Cafe for dinner.
Being its my favorite restaurant of all times, I got over the sadness quite quickly.
This pumpkin cheesecake was amazing!  :)

Mom made Dad a "Top Ten" book with a few of his favorite things.

We surprised Dad with 60 gifts in honor of his 60th Birthday!
An ISU sweatshirt seemed very appropriate for our weekend.

Hopefully this shot is good enough for the Christmas card.  :)

Running Roy

This fall Roy has been busy on his feet with training for a half marathon and coaching Cross Country at ADM High School.

Roy ran the Des Moines Half Marathon on Sunday.  It was a beautiful day for running!
Roy sporting his new medal, to add to his collection.
He ran a great race and a great time!  He is my hero!  :)

He does a great job of encouraging the cross country runners.

Baby Weekend

This past weekend was used productively in preparation for Lil' Swinger.  On Friday afternoon we had our 4th doctor appointment and everything is going well.  We praise God for the health and safety of mom and baby (and dad too).  After two trips to Babies R Us we finished our registry.  And we know this is only the beginning of stuff the little guy will need!  Another major item we checked off the list was purchasing a crib and dresser for the baby's room.  Emily is excited!  We have to wait twelve weeks for the crib to be delivered so Lil' Swinger had better not decide to come too early. ;)

Emily grinning from ear to ear in front of the new crib we picked out.

We hope Lil' Swinger will have "suite dreams" in his new crib!

Charleston, South Carolina

Last weekend we took a mini-vacation to Charleston, South Carolina.  The purpose of our trip was to celebrate Emily's 30th birthday and enjoy a "Babymoon" together.  We had a wonderful time exploring, relaxing, and celebrating this special time.

This is the view from our room at Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina.
Cheers to our time together.
We enjoyed time relaxing and reading by the pool at our hotel.

The Morris Island Lighthouse near Folly Beach.

The baby bump at 21 weeks.
We were able to watch lots of dolphins swimming off the pier at Folly Beach.

Celebrating Emily's 30th birthday at Slightly North of Broad with dinner and sour cream apple pie.

Emily really liked the Pineapple Fountain.

A walk at sunset on Isle of Palms.
Aiming the shot at Fort Sumter.

300 year old oaks at Boone-Hall Plantation.
We appreciated learning about the lives of the slaves at the Boone-Hall Plantation.
There were so many picturesque spots in Charleston.

The largest cable stay bridge in the Western Hemisphere was fun to drive and walk across.

It's A Boy!

On Sept. 17 we had our 19 week ultrasound.  It was wonderful to see how our Lil Swinger is growing and developing.  What a miracle HE is!  Here is a picture of our little man.  :)

Welcome!

Welcome to The Swinger Days, our family blog!  We are excited to share with you the things we do, places we go, and the memorable events of our lives.  The real reason for this blog is to share with you the journey of our growing family, as we wait for Lil Swinger to arrive in February!  :)
